Scribbled text on a paper

The journey is never ending. There's always gonna be growth, improvement, adversity; you just gotta take it all in and do what's right, continue to grow, continue to live in the moment- Antonio Brown

The desire to be right drives us and at times could go the length of costing us the relationships that we have built over time. At times we are not too aware that we are pushing people and things that we care for far from us. If we are in a position of leadership, the being right syndrome can cost us a lot as our team members can not quite relate. This does not mean that we should push to have it right or should not have our standard but we should ensure that we are increasing our chances of getting it right first time to avoid repeating the same things. So, what can we do then to increase our chances of truly getting it right:

          i. Know that which you do not know: Many at times we believe that we are masters of things and we can end up making a fool of ourselves in some instances. Self-awareness helps one know when they are past their circle of competence and one is able to seek help. One can engage tools that will help them understand themselves better. Speaking to people around you or professionals can also help you increase yourself awareness;

         ii. Seek help: Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but more of strength, remaining vulnerable. When people know that you are genuinely seeking feedback and shall act on it when delivered they will go to lengths to help and assist you. Part of seeking help is asking the necessarily questions especially when something does not make sense to you directly;

       iii. Work on communication: Communication is at the center of human existence and we must purpose to improve at every stage. One must learn to listen and at the same time speak up so that when people have agreed to move in a certain direction, we are all pulling in the same direction;

       iv. Remain humble: Many at times we get things going right and we forget that this is a journey. Always remain humble despite getting it all right most of the time. Share with others, as we become better by helping others. Also, when you find yourself on the wrong accept, apologize and take corrective action;

         v. Enjoy the process: Life is a journey sometimes we shall get it right and others it shall be downhill. Let us ensure that the destination of being right does not blind us from enjoying the ride. Everything that happens to is a learning curve.

We must strive to get things right the first time to avoid wasted time an opportunities.  I follow three rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care- Lou Holtz
