Scribbled text on a paper

“It’s easy to see how far you are from your desired outcome. It’s easy to see that you are not the man you want to be. The easy thing is not always the best thing. It’s also easy to get discouraged about the marathon that you are only a fifth of the way through. Instead of focusing solely on the hard work and pain ahead of you, take the time to celebrate the steps you have made, the milestones you have passed.” ― Josh Hatcher

January is always a time when most us take a step back and relook and reflect on our lives and the journey ahead. We at times get stuck on what is required of us and forget to live in the moment and celebrate the little accomplishments. The importance Celebrating the little achievements is that they create hope for a better future.

 This week was the second week of my little girls going to school. When I dropped them on Monday they did not cry like was the norm last week. The teachers had told me that it is a matter of days and it shall be well. Might not seem like a significant achievement but for me the thought that they are now enjoying school was mind boggling and since January has very few things to celebrate, I choose to pick this little one as a sign that there are greater things ahead.

 This year choose to:

  i.   Create your own goals and in them look for the milestones - Dividing goals to small identified sub goals helps create the momentum. When you are working on the goals, stretch yourself since you are stronger than you might think;

  ii. Live and enjoy each moment - At times we might not identify the milestone upfront but when they happen, we shall not miss them;

   iii. Have people who cheer you on as you attain the milestones - Critics are also important as they help you think deeper about your goals and your milestones. But above all choose positivity as it shall propel you;

 If your goal this year is to create wealth for example, identify the steps to it. This could include seeking knowledge, identifying the investment partner, starting the investment journey etc. It is in engaging the process that you can know what is required of you.
