Scribbled text on a paper

“Progress is measured by milestones. What many good people lack are markers that might tell them how they are actually doing. Goals canbecome a ritual or a fetish, but in the right measure they can give us some much needed reference points. No wonder some seem discouraged! Minussuch milestones, we often feel minus in our lives” ~ Neal A. Maxwell

With only two weeks to the end of the first quarter, this week I have been truly thinking if I was to extrapolate what I have done to the end of the year, how would the world look like? How far from where I intend to get to would I be? What is it that I need to change now to ensure that I am getting closer to where I need to be? It is for this reason that I thought of the importance of having milestones that we intend to achieve even as we push towards our Big Hairy and Audacious Goals. The milestones are just small sub goals that helps us sit, take stock reflect and guide us towards our high achievements.

When setting and reviewing milestones, should we put in mind:

i. The milestones should follow the SMARTER, goal setting principles

ii. Should be divided into small but significant steps

iii. Sequentially, the milestones should make sense and should be guiding us towards the goals

iv. Create a clear accountability framework including having an accountability partner

v. Remain flexible and be easy on yourself when the goals seem far relook on how you intend to get there sharpen the Axe and keep going at it.

All in all, lets create milestones as they force us to set time to reflect and give us reason to celebrate our achievements which at times is what we need to keep us moving.
