There is a lot that happens to us and many times we face stresses that we can not understand or control their origins. With stress the main question is whether there is a way that we can continuously remain focused and get going towards our goals. It is said that “Life is ten percent what you experience and ninety percent how you respond to it.” – Dorothy M. Neddermeyer.
How can we learn to help respond positively to our life stressors? Below are some of the things that come to my mind
- Seek to understand the issue: Many are the times we are stressed by things that we could be perceiving as an issue and when you dig deeper, they are really a non issue. Stopping and getting clarity on what the real issue is helps us get a solution to the problem remember properly identifying the problem is halfway to resolving it;
- Take action: In life inaction is what makes us get stuck. Once we understand the issue, we can choose to accept the situation or take action towards a corrective measure. When thinking about an investment, if we have invested in something that is not working, we can adopt a stop loss measure. There are things that we can not change eg The current increase in oil prices we have to accept and change our habits affected by the high cost. Irrespective of the situation sitting down and agonizing is not it we must take control through action;
- Ask and seek help: There is nothing new in the world, whatever we go through someone else has gone through the same so knowing the right place to get help is important. The help could be in the form of talking to someone or it could be through reading and listening to podcasts, webinars etc. “To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable; to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength.”
― Criss Jami
- Accepting change: We are at times stuck on the ways of doing things and yet we know that we need to change for progress. When changing things will be uncomfortable but the more uncomfortable things get as long as you are moving towards your goal, it means you are growing. Was listening to on purpose podcast and one the take out was “ we suffer from imposter syndrome since we are growing
In summary “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.”– Ralph Waldo Emerson and well all starts with a decision to seek and look for peace.
