Got an idea to start", "Thinking to start" and "Making a commitment to start" is one aspect of life. Actually "Starting" what you truly want to do in life, is a completely different ball game.”

Usually, we know what we want and we even have reasons why we need it so badly but we never gather the courage to start and engage the process. Why is it so difficult to start? Below are some of what I consider are reasons:

      i.        Fear of failure: we focus so much on what will happen if all goes wrong and you don’t succeed. My view is do what you want to do and if you fail, you’ll know whatnot to do. Failure teaches very well if you let it. This is attributed to loss aversion, which is a phycological observation that people preference to avoid loss than gain an equivalent amount. The fear of failure grips people more tighter than the prospect of winning.

ii.        Expectation of validation: When we seek people’s views, we could end up getting conflicting information. In most cases the people you seek validation from might be genuinely concerned about what this means to you but in most cases they do not care.

iii.        Status quo bias: Change is difficult to implement and when you start a business or start creating wealth, there are changes you must make in your life. However, our mind comes in the way of these changes when it perceives difficulty and discomfort.Due to this, we mostly end up accepting the status quo and stay in your comfort zones. You cannot end up anywhere else. You must overcome your need for comfort in order to do anything worthwhile.

iv.        Cluttered lives: We live in a world with so much happening that people find it difficult to get some free time. By auditing your life and doing away with time wasting activities and people, you can carve out some time for your own development and wellbeing.

     v.        Not seeking help: We need to accept that we are human and vulnerable. There are so many things that we do not know and there is always someone better than us in somethings. It is, therefore, important to seek them out and in most cases, they will be more than happy to assist.

Once you start it is not going to be sprint; it is a marathon. You shall get injured, discouraged fail time and again but remember to keep your eyes on the goal.  Get and accountability partner at the start as this shall help create routine as well as some support.

My Golf training has taught me a lot. Among three of us I, my sister and my daughter, they seem to be natural golfers. I have to get at least one or two extra days of training so that I can be close to what they can do.

Ideas don’t come out fully formed , they only become clearer as you work on them .You just have to get started.”
